Congratulations to YMCA for a great community event held on May 22nd across the GTA. Food for Tots staff participated in the walk to support kids and promote the message of Healthy and active children. Over 500,000 km were walked by YMCA children across the GTA in support of the event.

With the dissolution of Provincial Parliament and election call for June 12th, Bill 143 has been dropped from the Order Paper. Depending on the outcome of the election, this legislation may be proposed again once parliament reconvenes.

What an adventure the Food for Tots team has had over the last 24 hours. Our office and production facility experienced a very unexpected full power outage beginning early Monday afternoon.This power outage meant the kitchen was closed down in the middle of preparations!

Parents who have all of their children enrolled at a childcare centre full-time don’t need to worry about packing lunches for their children. However, there are many parents whose children attend school for a portion of the day. For them, planning everyday lunches can be a chore, yet lunch is a crucial component of a balanced daily nutrition plan.

20 years ago today Food for Tots began serving Healthylicious meals to childcare centres and schools. We are thrilled to be serving over 3 million meals annually and to be celebrating 20 years of making a Lasting Difference in the Lives of Children.

We wanted to take this opportunity to increase awareness of the new program offered by the City of Toronto: The Child Care Stabilization Grant is available through a onetime grant funding program from Toronto Children’s Services. Children’s Services will direct funding to recognize costs to licensed child care operators associated with the transition to full-day kindergarten (FDK).
